| THREE QUESTIONS FOR GAEL GARCIA BERNAL |
You have acted in movies of great world reknown film directors. How much has the experience of working with them helped you as a director, and why did you want to become a director yourself?
- Well, I don't want to be a director because I feel I already have a big job as an actor. But I still want to do films every now and then. For example, I play football, but I'm not a professional football player. The same way, I want to do films but I can't say that I'm a director. I prefer to see myself only as an actor. And why direct films? Well the same reason why make a production company, why make anything – just because there is an opportunity of making it and there is a story to tell. I'll wait until I have another story to tell. It requires a lot of work to make a film; I need some time also.

Workshop with Nikita Mikhalkov

In the beginning of the workshop, the founder and host, Emir Kusturica, thanked Mikhalkov for coming to Kustendorf again and stressed the importance of showing a movie that discusses things that we are slowly beginning to forget. Kusturica invited the famous film director to be a guest of the festival next year as well, and to show the third part of the movie.

| THREE QUESTIONS FOR THE DIRECTOR: JAN HREBEJK |
With the movie Kawasaki’s Rose you were nominated for the second time for an Oscar for Best foreign movie. In your opinion, how important is this award, especially for movie that come form non-English speaking countries? Have these nominations helped you in your career, particularly in collecting funds for future movies?
- Oskar academy award´s advantage is that even people that are not particularly interested in movies know this award and therefore it helps the movie to get into the people´s awareness. It makes it easier to spread abroad and sell the movie.

- Angle of impact, freestyling, sympathy for the outcasts, derisionary fatalism, latent subversiveness, humor in desperate situations?

| THREE QUESTIONS FOR THE DIRECTOR: ABBAS KIAROSTAMI |
Your unique, distinct film style was the example for many young filmmakers. How do you see today’s cinematography? Is there room in it for art cinema?
- I have my answer based on workshops in Iran and other parts of the world. I worked with different students and our cinema is based on independent cinema. They work with a digital camera. They use it as a pen. With their creative mind, they can make a lot of films without any investors. In the future, we will have a cinema that cannot compare to Hollywood. We will have cinema in the next century that is more creative. In my opinion, video art is not totally different from cinema. It is close to basic cinema 1st century when it was invented. We can have cinema in an artistic way. With our creativity, video is a way to go to artistic cinema. I hope that artistic cinema in the world will be expanded in the future.
| THREE QUESTIONS FOR THE DIRECTOR: FILIP REMUNDA – CZECH PEACE |
Is it possible to film a movie that deals with political themes, and yet to not be manipulated, or used in favor of some politics?
- That is exactly what we tried to do with this movie. It is difficult because it is very difficult to not be manipulated. We did not want to film a neutral movie because I think that there is no such thing as an “objective” political movie. I attended the filming of this movie with sort of personal feelings and I wanted to be subjective, to depict how I see things. During the filming of this movie, we met and recorded people who are completely ideologically oriented, but also those who are totally unaware of politics and the media manipulation around them.
