INTERNATIONAL FILM AND MUSIC FESTIVAL KÜSTENDORF 2011


International Film and Music Festival Kustendorf 2011 will take place from January 5-11, 2011, at Mokra Gora, Serbia, organized by “Rasta International” and under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia. As in previous years, the Festival is dedicated to future film makers and already acclaimed authors.

 

For COMPETITION PROGRAMME we have received more than 400 films by young filmmakers and film students from all over the world. In the final sellection, 20 films from 13 countries will compete: from Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, Lebanon, Macedonia, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Serbia, Switzerland, Sweden, Turkey and USA. The diversity of topics and film genres, together with the high quality of sellected films, promise to bring an exciting competition full of suspense. The international jury consisting of Vincent Maraval (film producer and one of the founders of «Wild Bunch»), Richard Brick (film producer and professor at the Columbia University), and prof.Dr.Iva Draškić Vićanović, will honour the best films with Golden, Silver and Bronze Egg Awards.

Programme RETROSPECTIVE OF GREATNESS is dedicated to Abbas Kiarostami, one of the most influential film authors of today who will, as one of the Festival’s guest, give several workshops. The films Where Is the Friend’s House? (1987), Close-Up (1990), Through the Olive Trees (1994), and Taste of Cherry (the winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997) will be present as a part of the Festival’s film program.

CONTEMPORARY TRENDS programme will present some of the last year's most important films and their authors. Following the screenings, the authors - guests of the Festival - will give workshops daily. During the seven days of the Kustendorf, in this programme, we will screen films such as Burnt by the Sun 2 – Exodus by the prominent Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov that has received numerous awards, will be the Festival’s guest for the second time; Troubled Water by the Norwegian director Erik Poppe; A Letter to Elia – a kind of tribute to cult director Elia Kazan directed by Martin Scorsese and Kent Jones, as well as Abbas Kiarostami’s latest film Certified Copy. In addition, two Czech movies – Czech Peace –– by young directors Filip Remunda and Vít Klusák, as well as the Czech 83rd Oscar candidate for Best Foreign Film, Kawasaki’s Rose directed by Jan Hrebejk.Gael Garcia Bernal, a famous actor and one of ten Mexican directors gathered together to work on a movie Revolución, will give a special touch to the programme, introducing the theme of the Mexican Revolution and its aftermath a century later.

SIDE PROGRAMME will remind us of some of the most significant films of the past. Within this programme we will have opportunity to present movies of one of the most influential Czech authors Otakar Vávra –– Romance for Bugle (1966) and Witches’ Hammer (1969). This centenarian, a living legend of film art, will be a special guest of the Festival this year. As a part of this programme the restored copy of the film Roma of a famous author Federico Fellini and unforgettable American blockbuster from 1955, East of Eden, by Elia Kazan, will be screened. Beside numerous surprises, the films Goodbye, How Are You? by the Serbian director Boris Mitić and Marilena from P7 by Romanian film director Cristian Nemescu, will also be presented within this programme.

МUSIC PROGRAMME – Every night, after the screenings and workshops, the concerts of the international famous music stars will complete the atmosphere of Kustendorf night life. This year on Kustendorf we well present : Ngoma Africa Band from Tansania, Manushka Orchestra from France, the legend of soul, funk and rock Andre Williams (USA), Farmers Market – Norwegian band playing music form the Balkans,and an original Serbian attraction, music group Beogradski sindikat.
 
The Kustendorf will welcome all participating film authors and actors, as well as numerous young film students, authors, and many other distingushed guests from the international film world.
