International Film and Music Festival Kustendorf will take place 17 to 23 January 2012 in Drvengrad in Mokra Gora, Serbia organized by “Rasta International” and under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society of Republic of Serbia. As in previous years, the Festival is dedicated to future film makers and already acclaimed authors.
COMPETITION PROGRAMME – for Golden, Silver and Bronze Egg Awards 20 films will compete from: Belgium, Estonia, Italy, Canada, Kyrgyzstan, UK, Macedonia, Mexico, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Russia, USA, Serbia, France and Spain. The diversity of topics and film genres, together with the high quality of selected films, promise to bring an exciting competition full of suspense. International jury consists of the Iranian actress Leila Hatami (President of the Jury), French producer Pierre Edelman and famous Serbian actor and producer Zoran Cvijanović. This year the “Vilko Filač” Award for Best Cinematography will be decided upon by the famous Czech cinematographer Martin Šec and Svetolik Mića Zajc, celebrated Serbian sound editor and designer. As in the previous years, the Competition Programme selector is Dunja Kusturica.
RETROSPECTIVE OF GREATNESS is a programme that is, for the first time, dedicated to the two outstanding authors: Kim Ki-duk and Nuri Bilge Ceylan, who will give workshops for students after the screenings of their films. As a part of this programme the following films of South Korean director Kim Ki-duk will be screened: Bad Guy (2002) and 3-Iron (2004) that won the Leone d’Argento Award (Special Award for Best Direction) at the 61st Venice Film Festival. Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan will be presented with his first feature-length film The Small Town (1997) and Distant (2002) that won a total of 47 awards, with the most significant Grand Prix at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
CONTEMPORARY TRENDS programme will present some of the last year's most important films and their authors – the festival’s guests, who will give workshops after the projections of their films. During the seven days of the Kustendorf, in this programme, the following films will be screened: Arirang by Kim Ki-duk, and Stopped on Track by the famous German director Andreas Dresen, which both shared the main award of `Un Certain Regard` programme at 2011 Cannes Film Festival; 4:44 - Last Day on Earth by Abel Ferrara; A Better Life by Cеdric Kahn; Chicken With Plums by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud; Nader and Simin: A Separation by Asghar Farhadi that was awarded Golden Bear for the Best film at International Film Festival in Berlin in 2011; the Danish film Out of Bounds by Frederikke Aspöck who triumphed at the 11th Film Festival in Marrakesh. This programme also includes The Kid With a Bike by Dardenne brothers and Once Upon a Time in Anatolia by Nuri Bilge Ceylan that shared the Grand Prix at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
NEW AUTHORS – is the programme that presents debut feature-length films by new promising talents slowly conquering the film world using new and original film language. We will have the opportunity to watch this-year Cannes Film Festival discovery, Corpo Celeste by the young author Alice Rohrwacher, film Nicostratos the Pelican by Olivier Horlait with Emir Kusturica in main role, and Mozzarela Stories by Eduardo de Angelis, a former student who participated in the Competition programme at Kustendorf in 2008 and 2009.
GREAT ACTING ACHIEVEMENTS – present some of the most significant film achievements by actors. In this program, we will have opportunity to watch Claude Chabrol’s Madame Bovary (1991) starring the great French actress Isabelle Huppert and Jacques Audiard’s A Prophet (2009) whit young French actor Tahar Rahim in the lead role. Isabelle Huppert and Tahar Rahim will be special festival guests and give the lecture after the projection.
SIDE PROGRAMME features four extraordinary film achievements by young film authors. This program includes the first film by a young Russian artist Andrey Grigoryev – Balkan star that offers a different perspective on Emir Kusturica’s life and work, Little Red Riding Hood by Zoran Tairović that tells about tradition and culture of Roma in a different, original way, Milena by Čarna Radoičić that uses contemporary film language to “paint” the portrait of Milena Pavlović-Barilli, and short film Happy Now by Frederikke Aspöck, which won the Cinéfondation First Prize at 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
MUSIC PROGRAM – Every night, after the screenings and workshops, the concerts of the international famous music stars will complete the atmosphere of Kustendorf nightlife. This year on Kustendorf we well present: Pelageya from Russia, The Rosenberg Trio from the Netherlands, Stribor Kusturica and the Poisoners from Serbia, Adam Stinga from Moldova, Sonido Gallo Negro from Mexico, as well as the most famous trumpet orchestra in the world Boban and Marko Markovic Orchestra.
International Film and Music Festival Kustendorf 2012 will welcome all participating film authors and actors, as well as numerous young film students, authors, and many other distinguished guests from the international film world.
